The controversial “Snyder Cut” of Justice League will finally be released to the public in 2021 exclusively on WarnerMedia’s streaming platform, HBO Max.
In a (recent) online viewing party with Superman actor Henry Cavill, director Zack Snyder officially announced that the long-rumored “Snyder Cut” of Justice League is coming, surprising fans all over the world who are campaigning so hard for the release of his version of the movie.
Zack Snyder was the original director of the 2017 film, Justice League. The film is the first team-up movie of popular DC superheroes Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash, and Cyborg. Unfortunately, Snyder left the production due to a family tragedy. Warner Bros. brought in the iconic Avengers director Joss Whedon and continued the production of the film with rewrites and reshoots, then ultimately changing the overall story envisioned by Snyder.
Joss Whedon’s Justice League was released in November 2017 and grossed a total of $657.9 million worldwide. The released version of the film received a lot of backlash and negative reviews. Right after the film was released, thousands of fans started campaigning for the rumored “Snyder Cut” through online petitions, public demonstrations, a Times Square billboard, and an online trend for the hashtag #ReleasetheSnyderCut even the stars of the film such as Ben Affleck (Batman) and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) voiced out their support.
Three years after the original release, DCEU fans will finally see Snyder’s version of Justice League. As of the moment, Zack Snyder’s Justice League will either be released in a four-hour director’s cut movie or a six-episode series. The HBO Max version, according to Snyder, will be very different from the theatrical release version of the film, expect elements and characters that were teased in the past especially Justice League’s arch-nemesis Darkseid.
“I want to thank HBO Max and Warner Brothers for this brave gesture of supporting artists and allowing their true visions to be realized,” Snyder said in a statement. “Also a special thank you to all of those involved in the SnyderCut movement for making this a reality”, he added.
