Facebook will shut down its Live Shopping feature to focus on Reels.
Starting October 1, 2022, Facebook users will no longer be able to host any new or scheduled Live Shopping events on the platform.
In a blog post, Meta said that consumers’ viewing behaviors are shifting to short-form video – a phenomenon that its competitor, Tit-Tok, well utilizes. This competition may also be why the company turned its focus on promoting Facebook (FB) and Instagram (IG) Reels.
Further, Meta invited users and creators to explore Instagram reels where they are allowed to tag products in IG reels to enable more profound brand/product discovery and consideration.
Amidst these changes, Meta clarified that users can still use Facebook Live to broadcast live events, but they will no longer be able to create product playlists or tag products in their Live videos. This means e-commerce merchants/retailers will have to seek other ways to sell products on FB.
