Have you ever fallen in love with a TV series only to find out there will be no more new seasons? In the past years, there have been several shows that many believe were gone too soon whether due to network budget constraints, low ratings, or, more recently, the pandemic.

Here are SEA Wave’s High Five canceled TV series that we want to bring back.

Santa Clarita Diet (2017-2019)

Starring Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant, Santa Clarita Diet is a horror-comedy series about a picture-perfect suburban family whose mundane life turns around when their matriarch starts to show signs of turning into a zombie. Its bizarre storyline set in a suburban backdrop makes for some hilarious plotlines and after its season 3 cliffhanger, fans of the show definitely deserve some answers.

GLOW (2017-2019)

GLOW which stands for the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling is a comedy-drama based on real-life syndicated women’s professional wrestling of the same name in the 1980s. Its smart and quirky humor coupled with a superb cast led by Alison Brie will keep you invested and rooting for its underdog characters. The show was originally set to have a fourth and final season but was prematurely canceled in 2020 due to the production shutdown caused by the pandemic.

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency (2016-2017)

This odd and absurd yet well-written and satisfying comedy-drama-mystery-fantasy series is about a “holistic detective” named Dirk Gently who investigates cases based on the “inter-connectivity of all things” together with his unwilling sidekick named Todd, played by Elijah Wood. Despite only having two seasons, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency is a must-see for sci-fi, comedy, and mystery crime fans alike but it wouldn’t hurt to have one (or a few) more seasons to satisfy fans.

Sense8 (2015-2018)

Only lasting 2 seasons, this sci-fi series followed eight strangers from different parts of the world who become mentally and emotionally linked to each other. It has been praised for its central themes revolving around empathy and exploration of topics such as identity, sexuality, gender, and politics, which was unprecedented on television at the time. Sense8 remains a favorite and, in fact, after it was canceled after two seasons, which ended in a cliffhanger, the decision was so heavily criticized that Netflix released a final two-hour special to give closure to the story.

Firefly (2002)

This space Western drama series is set in the year 2517 and follows a renegade space crew and their adventures aboard the Serenity spaceship. It has been praised for its witty dialogue, creative worldbuilding, compelling storylines, and lovable characters, particularly Nathan Fillion’s. However, it received the ax just after 11 out of the 14 produced episodes were aired – what came after was a massive outpouring of petitions and activities organized by its dedicated fanbase to bring the show back but to no avail. But despite its early demise, Firefly remains a cult classic and is often referenced in pop culture.
