This first-ever live-action adaptation of the fan-favourite game, “Minecraft,” hit theaters last April and broke records. The film became the highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time with a domestic debut of $163 million.
It centers around four misfit characters—Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Momoa), Henry (Hansen), Natalie (Myers) and Dawn (Brooks) who find themselves struggling with ordinary problems. But suddenly they are pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination.
Now, to get back home, they’ll have to master the world (and protect it from evil creatures like Piglins and Zombies) while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve (Black). Together, their adventure will challenge all five individuals to be bold and reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative…the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world.
The film and crew are a diverse set of creatives, with Jared Hess at the helm to make the movie a reality. Alongside him are the lead actors, Jason Momoa and Jack Black, as well as the supporting cast comprising Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge. Hess directed the film from a screenplay by Chris Bowman & Hubbel Palmer and the story by Allison Schroeder and Chris Bowman & Hubbel Palmer, based on the Minecraft video game.
Also, Hess’s creative team behind the camera includes director of photography Enrique Chediak, production designer Grant Major, editor James Thomas, VFX supervisor Dan Lemmon and costume designer Amanda Neale. The music supervisors are Gabe Hilfer and Karyn Rachtman, and the music is by Mark Mothersbaugh.
