She’s the perfect matchmaker, but who is her perfect match? Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal are caught up in a love triangle in Materialists, the newest romcom from A24.

Materialists is written and directed by Celine Song, and produced by David Hinojosa, Christine Vachon, Pamela Koffler, Celine Song. The film stars Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal.

Some lines from the trailer give us possible hints as to how this romcom will play out—“I have heard every possible reason to get married,” “Harry, you are what we call a unicorn,” and “Who are partner is determines our whole life.” Hear us out, we’re about to get deep into it.

The trailer may just be about a love triangle with rom-com characteristics sprinkled into it. But if this film is anything like Song’s Past Lives, then it’ll serve up a heartfelt sucker punch straight to the heart as well.

Based on the three lines we mentioned above, this movie is going to dive into choices. Johnson’s character is a matchmaker, and the trailer shows us a glimpse of what her clients want in their future partners. There have been nine matches that led to marriages. Then, Pascal, Mr. Unicorn, with his perfect debonair aura, captures the heart of Johnson with Evan’s character asking a thought-provoking question that sounds straight out of an early 2000s rom-com film.

Either way, the film explores a summation of choices about who your soulmate is going to be through the eyes of various clients and the matchmaker herself. Is our bachelorette ready to find her better half in a too-good-to-be-true guy or her imperfect ex with history?

Materialists is out to catch people’s hearts in Philippine theaters soon.
