88rising, the record label behind Asian musicians like NIKI, Rich Brian, and Joji, just debuted their first Indonesian girl group last May 2, 2025, composed of Baila, Christy, Esther and Shaz. Stylistically spelled in full lowercase letters, no na’s name came from the Indonesian word “nona,” which means “miss” or “lady.” But just how did this group form? Join SEA Wave as we take a Deep Dive into Indonesia’s rising girl group.

How It All Started

Before the group was formed, Baila, Shaz, and Christy met backstage at 88rising’s Head in the Clouds Festival in Jakarta, Indonesia last December 2022. Esther joined them 6 months later, completing the quartet and kicking off their training as a group.

In an interview with Billboard, the members shared that they were all scouted by 88rising and asked if they wanted to be promoted as a global girl group. The offer not only focused on making them artists but also helped the girls move to L.A. in 2024 to pursue their dreams.

All the members of no na are full and proud Indonesians, which makes the group a very strong representation of the country’s talent and culture. With each member having a background in either singing or dancing, No Na shines with their incredible talent and distinct Indo charm.

Christy is a trained ballet dancer, becoming a dance coach for rhythmic gymnastics and ballet in her young age. Esther was a contestant on Indonesian Idol Season 10 and was a former artist under Star Media Nusantra. Baila was also a contestant of Indonesian Idol, joining the first season of the Junior edition of the show; and Shaz was a member of dance crews DULCET and EUTONE.

While the girls don’t have official positions yet, all four have been trained in both vocals and dance, showing how talented they are as all-rounders right from the start.

Their Own Sound

The group released three singles in quick succession this May with “shoot,” followed by “superstitious” and “falling in love.” With three hits on their discography, no na was able to showcase their strengths and versatility. Their debut single “shoot” has a light and refreshing pop vibe, meanwhile “superstitious” leans into disco pop, and “falling in love” features a slow city pop sound.

The group’s music videos also highlight the beauty of Indonesia’s local culture and scenery, from natural landscapes, to architecture, and beyond. Indonesian fashion stylist Andy Tan was also the stylist for no na’s outfits in the “superstitious” music video, putting in a bit of Indonesian touch into their fresh summer concept.

What’s next for no na?

Starting off as trainees during 88rising’s Head in the Clouds Festival Indonesia in 2022, the girl group is now fully formed and will be part of the lineup for the New York edition of the festival this September 20, 2025.

There is no doubt that these girls will gain even more recognition for their unique talent, music, and charm. Even a few K-pop idols have joined in the no na wave like IVE’s Rei, RIIZE’s Anton, and KATSEYE’s Sophia.

no na has indeed captured the hearts of music fans, becoming one of the most-streamed girl groups in Southeast Asia. Their releases have reached thousands of streams, securing spots on global charts, and even their music videos have hit millions of views. With their fresh songs and amazing performances, no na has the potential to grow an even bigger global fanbase and inspire a new generation of Indonesian artists.
