Absurdist Comedy Is Back! “People are kind of always ready to laugh,” says producer Seth MacFarlane (Ted, Family Guy) in a new featurette for this year’s The Naked Gun. “Growing up, I loved The Naked Gun [starring Leslie Nielsen]. This kind of broad, absurdist comedy would transcend all age groups.” Watch the first look Featurette below.
In the film, Liam Neeson plays Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., son of Lt. Frank Drebin (famously played by Leslie Nielsen) and the only man who has the particular set of skills to lead Police Squad and save the world! Directed by Akiva Schaffer (Saturday Night Live, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping) and produced by MacFarlane, The Naked Gun stars Neeson, Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, CCH Pounder, Kevin Durand, Cody Rhodes, Liza Koshy, Eddie Yu, with Danny Huston.

Naked Gun first graced screens back in 1988 and spawned two more sequels after it. It used physical comedy with, as Seth MacFarlane described above, broad and absurd humor. Seeing Liam Neeson take on a comedic role after solidifying his name as an action star will be refreshing. Neeson has become a household name worldwide, best known for his roles in the Taken franchise as retired CIA agent Brian Mills, Star Wars: Episode I as Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, Oskar Schindler in Schindler’s List, and more.
Watch Liam Neeson transform into the clumsy, oblivious son of Frank Drebin and see him wield his particular set of skills in The Naked Gun, only in cinemas this August.
