Les Misérables is returning with a world tour in celebration of its 40th anniversary in the West End!

Based on the 1862 Victor Hugo novel of the same name, Les Misérables is set in the 19th century, culminating with the June 1832 Paris Uprising. The story follows Jean Valjean, a French peasant released on parole after being imprisoned for 19 years. Moved by the generosity of the Bishop of Digne who treated him with compassion and gave him some silver, Valjean tears up his ticket-of-leave, breaking his parole and setting out to change his identity.

Les Misérables was adapted into a musical with music by Claude-Michel Schönberg and lyrics by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel. The French musical premiered in Paris in 1980 with direction by Robert Hossein, and made its London debut in October 1985, making it the longest-running musical in the West End. It has also been adapted into an Academy-Award-winning 2012 film, starring Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, alongside a star-studded cast featuring Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne and Helena Bonham Carter.

The story is beloved to many for its exploration of France’s history and the themes of social justice, mortality, lawfulness, and love, both romantic and familial. And now on its 40th anniversary since debuting at West End, the musical will return with a world tour, boasting an international all-star cast, along with a large ensemble of Filipino and international musicians performing live on stage, and all-new set designs that will transport audiences to 19th century France.

The Les Misérables: The Arena Spectacular world tour will run in the Philippines from January 20 to March 1, 2026 at the Theater at Solaire, and in Singapore from March 24 to April 26, 2026, at the Sands Theatre in Marina Bay.
