Just in time for the 15th anniversary of How to Train Your Dragon, Film Concerts PH will soar to new heights with an orchestral show accompanying the animated film.
The Academy Award-nominated score by John Powell will be performed by the 83-member Filharmonika Orchestra, led by one of Thailand’s leading young conductors, Thanapol Setabrahmana of the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra. Powell is known for scoring multiple animated films, including Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, Happy Feet, and the Ice Age series, as well as the two-part live-action Wicked adaptations.
Powell also scored the live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon, which marks a rare occasion of creative continuity in film remakes, especially when it comes to its sonic identity. The acclaimed score of the film is renowned for its emotional depth and rich thematic material, which the Film Concerts PH aims to bring to life in its upcoming show.
How to Train Your Dragon follows Hiccup (voiced by Jay Baruchel), the son of Chief Stoick the Vast (voiced by Gerard Butler), who lives in a Viking civilization on the island of Berk. Born as a descendant of dragon killers, he is set to follow the footsteps of his elders, only to find out that his talent was never killing dragons but training them to live with humans. He becomes a friend of the ferocious dragon named Toothless, a nightfury known for their rarity and elusive skills. Together, they form a bond keeping the balance between dragons and people, saving the world and soaring the skies.
