Can’s Gallery in Jakarta celebrates its 25th Anniversary with the exhibit “Continuum”

From Singapore’s celebration of 60 years of pop culture, to Thailand’s Thai Local Sauce exhibit, Southeast Asia truly has a unique way of expressing its history through art. Today, we look at Indonesia and the celebration of its contemporary art scene through Can’s Gallery’s 25th anniversary exhibit, Continuum.

From 2000 to 2016, the gallery was known as CANNA Gallery, located in the commercial area of Kelapa Gading, Jakarta, with the goal of nurturing the art market in Indonesia by promoting, mediating, and advancing the careers of local artists. By 2016, they rebranded and became the art gallery we know today—Can’s Gallery.

Can’s Gallery’s Continuum includes two concurrent exhibits—one at Can’s Gallery and the other at Bentara Budaya Gallery—featuring a total of 59 different artists coming together to showcase their art, followed by a series of artist-driven discussions and live performances including contemporary artist Victoria Kosasie’s Pieta piece at Can’s Gallery on October 5; the Bunga Yuridespita & Exhibition tour’s Did You See That at Bentara Budaya Gallery on October 11; and a discussion with art collectors back at Can’s Gallery on October 16.

Check out Continuum at Can’s Gallery until October 20 and Bentara Budaya Gallery until October 11. For more updates about the event, follow their Instagram and website.
