Marvel Animation Studios is looking to continue exploring new worlds and fresh storylines through a regular lineup of animated series. Just this year, Marvel Animation Studios released two series: Eyes of Wakanda and Marvel Zombies. Moving forward, fans can expect a treat as Marvel executive Brad Winderbaum announced the yearly release of X-Men ‘97 and Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man!
X-Men ‘97 is the continuation of the 1992 X-Men: The Animated Series, following our favorite group of mutants as they fight to save mutantkind and the world. It’s a gorgeous blend of comedy, action, and heartache as the mutants now have to defend themselves from humans who are now turning on them.
Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man follows Peter Parker in an alternate timeline, where he’s bitten by an alien spider that came with Stephen Strange / Doctor Strange. Now, Peter has to navigate being a superhero while working as an intern under Norman Osborn / The Green Goblin. The series is a new take on the classic Spider-Man story, using comicbook-esque animation to portray Peter Parker in his early days as the web-slinging hero.
These two shows will now get the spotlight they deserve. In an interview with Nitecast Media TV, Winderbaum shares, “What’s exciting about the next few years is that we’re going to get subsequent seasons of X-Men 97 and Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man in an annual cadence. So, every year, there will be a new season, and we can map out a longer arc to those stories.”
Winderbaum also added an update for Marvel Zombies, saying that there were many more stories to explore, but for them to be able to truly get into those, they need the fans to support the show and watch it on streaming.
As of now, no confirmed date is set yet for the new seasons, but X-Men ‘97 is slated for potential release as early as 2026.
