Filipino hospitality is known as one of the best in the world—Filipinos always have big smiles, warm welcomes, and food to offer curious and hungry travelers from around the globe. As the Michelin Guide visits the country, we come to see what Filipino hospitality is truly like in the eyes of the industry with the inaugural Michelin Keys.
“Just as Michelin Stars celebrate the world’s most exceptional restaurants, Michelin Keys now honor hotels that offer truly remarkable stays, where design, service, and location come together to create unforgettable moments,” Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide, said in a statement.
And like with Michelin Stars, hotels can be given anywhere from one to three keys, with one key for a “very special stay”; two keys for “an exceptional stay”; and three keys for “an extraordinary stay.”
Among the 7,000 properties worldwide that have been endorsed by Michelin Guide inspectors, 2,457 hotels were chosen to be included in the Michelin Key list, with 20 hotels in the Philippines being “recommended stays,” and five receiving one key each—Amanpulo in Palawan, Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu, Fairmont Makati, Nay Palad Hideaway in Siargao, and Raffles Makati.
Since its inception in the 1920s, the Michelin Guide continues to recommend outstanding experiences around the world, setting new standards for global hotel excellence with the addition of the Michelin Keys list.
