Contemporary art will fill the streets of the Lion City in this year’s edition of the Singapore Biennale. Celebrating Singapore’s 60th anniversary as a nation, the biennale will follow the theme “Pure Intention,” which offers locals and visitors a unique retrospective experience of looking at Singapore through contemporary art in multiple venues and public spaces.
Organized by the Singapore Art Museum (SAM), the Singapore Biennale began in 2006, and over the years, it became the country’s foremost platform for international dialogue about contemporary art. The event engages the people through a set of curated exhibitions, public engagements, and education programs featuring talks and tours, school visits and workshops, and community days.
This year, Duncan Bass, Hsu Fang-Tze, Ong Puay Khim, and Selene Yap curated the pieces that come from independent organizations and curatorial collectives worldwide. Alongside them are contributors like the Asian Film Archive, Singapore-based multimedia production studio Hothouse, and Hyphen made the event possible. With more than 80 artists creating the pieces presented in this year’s biennale, art meets everyday life through Self-Guided Intention Trails, Stick with SAM Competition, and more, to be announced on their social media pages.
Visit Singapore and enjoy contemporary art imbued into everyday spaces until March 29, 2026 and follow the Singapore Biennale Facebook and Instagram pages for more info.
