The French documentary Philippines: Diving for Gold has been nominated in the Current Affairs category of the 2025 International Emmy Awards.

Created by Antoine Védeilhé, Germain Baslé, Marco Romas, and Mahak Gupta, and produced by Arte GEIE – Strasbourg, the 36-minute documentary tells the story of children divers who search the sea beds in the hopes of finding gold to sell.

The synopsis reads: “The Philippines has vast deposits of gold. But much of it is mined by children. They alone are slender enough to dive deep into self-dug tunnels, through swamps, or down to the seabed. The highly dangerous undertaking puts their lives at risk.”

The International Emmy Awards announced the nomination along with other French programs like DJ Mehdi: Made In France by Thibaut De Longeville, Iris by Doria Tillier, Jean-Baptiste Pouilloux, and Constance Verluca, and King of Kings: Chasing Edward Jones by Harriet Marin Jones.

Winners will be announced on November 24 at the 53rd International Emmy Awards to be held in New York City, USA.
