Meet Female Alphas of P-Pop: G22

Spread the love

RAWR! Sino ang pa-laban? G22!

Known as “P-pop’s Female Alphas,” G22 is rising through the ranks as the newest P-pop trio. Their name comes from the gun, Glock 22, making it appropriate for this group which aims to be powerful and cutting-edge; and their fanbase are called Bullets, which is very fitting and cute because without bullets, a gun cannot function.

Rather than the usual connotation of firearms as masculine and violent, this trio subverts them for women empowerment. This is reflected in their powerful lyrics and strong alto voices, which has made them one of the fast-rising groups in the industry, even winning Rising Girl Group of the Year at the PPOP Music Awards 2025.

Join us as we look at the elements that make these female alphas a force to be reckoned with for Pinoy Pop today.

A Strong and Stable Trio

G22 debuted in 2022 under Cornerstone Entertainment through their single, “Bang”. The song was a unique blend of pop, rap, trap, and EDM which made the debut as a group strong and unique. Starting off with four members—AJ, Alfea, Jaz and Bianca—the group eventually dwindled to just three, after Bianca left due to personal reasons.

Alfea Marie Zulueta or Alfea is a Filipino-Spanish singer and actor, and is considered the visual and lead dancer of the group. She appeared in the short film Ikatlong Yugto ng Pag-Ibig (2021) before being revealed as the first member of G22.

Jasmine Therese Henry or Jaz is a Filipino-Australian and is the main vocalist of the group. Jaz was previously a solo artist under CTM Music, where she released her debut and only single, “This is the Night” in 2017 before becoming part of G22 as its 2nd member.

Last but not least is Angel Jermae Yape or AJ—the leader, main rapper, and a vocalist. She also writes some of the lyrics for the group and is a strong advocate for female empowerment. AJ joined The Voice Teens season 2 and, like Jaz, she released a single as a solo artist in 2018 before debuting as G22’s final member.

As a trio, they’ve truly become icons for Filipino women, owing to their rise to popularity from participating in international events like EXO Lay’s Show It All reality TV Show, and performing as an opening act for fanmeets of South Korean celebrities like K-pop group ENHYPEN and actor Song Kang. They are also ambassadors for laptop brand Acer alongside SB19, with a collab song with SB19’s Pablo for the brand.

Self-Expression, Group Cohesion

When you see these three ladies, what they wear is like their personalities on their sleeves. Eldzs Mejia, G22’s stylist and creative director shared in an interview with Preview, “The girls of G22 are very different when it comes to their personal styles. I think what they all share in common is their flexibility and their ability to adapt and own a variety of styles.”

She also shared that when it came to style itself, Jaz was more in tune with her feminine side, but can look fierce with a snap of a finger; while AJ embraces both her girly and boyish side so her style is a blend of tough, cool, and chic; and Alfea goes with the trend so she can jump between cute to sexy, depending on what’s in.

Despite their stylistic differences, these girls come together to serve us memorable looks while dialing up their individual charms that complement each other.

A Shot of Adrenaline and Empowerment

G22 released their first album The Dissection of Eve just last year, which contained 8 tracks including their most iconic songs “Pa-Pa-Pa-Palaban” and “Filipina Queen.” If you listen closely, both songs take pride in Filipino heritage, making use of the Filipino language while uplifting women to be vocal and encouraging them not to be passive and to act out their dreams and goals.

The group itself blends pop and hip-hop, giving their sound a boppy feel that makes you want to dance along. Between those tracks are an assortment of other songs like an EDM anthem, a full rap track, a soft ballad, and more, showing off the various facets of a modern independent woman.

G22 is starting the year strong with various upcoming events and projects including performances at Rappler Live Jam, the Wish Music Awards, and TV5’s Vibe at the Meralco Theater, among others. This just goes to show that the group is booked and busy, and we wish them all the best in their continued rise to stardom.
