Marvel Studios recently unleashed the Black Widow trailer and it definitely kicks off the hype for the Phase 4 of Marvel Cinematic Universe!
Here’s SEA Wave’s High Five why we are excited about from the trailer reveal:
Black Widow is back!
Yes, Black Widow is back but not in the current timeline after the events of Avengers: Endgame. As we all know, she sacrificed herself so Hawkeye can get the Soul Stone in Vormir. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed in San Diego Comic-Con 2019 that the Black Widow movie is set after the events of Captain America: Civil War and before the happenings of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. So, is this movie the last time we will see one of the most badass avengers, Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow in action? ☹
Budapest!
Natasha and Clint always teased us about their encounter in Budapest and at the beginning of the trailer, we saw a shot of the Hungarian capital! The city was first mentioned in the first Avengers movie and we are all intrigued ever since on what really happened in Budapest, hopefully Black Widow will finally give us those action-packed moments!
Yelena Bolova
Comic book readers are familiar with the name Yelena Belova because in the comics, she took the mantle of Black Widow. Now, the Black Widow movie will formally introduce Yelena into the MCU and portrayed by Florence Pugh, will she also take the role of Natasha Romanoff as the MCU’s Black Widow?
Red Guardian and The Taskmaster
One of the key highlights of the trailer is the appearance of David Harbour’s character, the Russia’s equivalent of Captain America, Alexei Shostakov aka Red Guardian. We saw him don his costume, engaged in a fight with the Taskmaster, and we are so excited on what he can offer as an addition to increasing roster of heroes in the MCU!
The MCU version of treacherous Taskmaster is also set to appear in Black Widow! In the trailer, he was seen shooting arrows and fighting with Red Guardian, he seems to be one of the villains in this action-packed spy movie. In the comics, he has the ability to copy fighting styles of different heroes through his enhanced photographic memory, can we also see this ability in his MCU version?
Who is Rachel Weisz’ character?
Rachel Weisz plays the role of the character named Melina. There is no comic book reference for this character, but we saw her appear in the trailer as part of the “family” along with Natasha Romanoff, Yelena Belova and Alexei Shostakov. Is she really a friend or a surprise foe?
Just a reminder, don’t trust the trailer too much because Marvel Studios has a history of adding scenes that are not really featured in the movie. ?
Let’s all find out how these things play in the plot of Black Widow and how the movie affects the future of the MCU as it opens on April 29, 2020 in Philippine cinemas nationwide.
