We often forget that animals can also be at their most vulnerable during these challenging times. Animal institutions, including zoos, are forced to cancel their regular operations – making the essential safekeeping practices for its animals more complicated.
Recently, the Avilon Zoo in Rodriguez, Rizal is reaching out to everyone to help them take care of their animals given their temporary closure because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a Facebook post, the zoo encourages the public to purchase Avilon Zoo admission tickets on their website to “provide for the needs and welfare of all life under their care.”
Regular ticket rate for Avilon Zoo costs PHP 800, but the zoo is now offering a special offer rate amounting to PHP 600 each for those who will avail the tickets on their website.
The tickets, which will aid the Avilon Wildlife Conservation Foundation and its mission for wildlife, have no expiration date and can be used on any available days once the quarantine restrictions are lifted.
“We must admit though that it is quite challenging to maintain good quality animal care and veterinary services in this extraordinary time. Avail as much as you can and help us continue to provide for our animals and the people taking care of them,” the zoo said their Facebook post.
Avilon Zoo is a 7.5-hectare facility that houses more than 3,000 animals from exotic wildlife. Currently, they are taking care of more than 500 species of birds, reptiles, mammals, freshwater fish, amphibians, and invertebrates.
It is currently the largest zoological institution of the Philippines in terms of the collection of live animals.
Avilon Zoo is located at 9003 GP Sitio Gulod, San Isidro 1860 Rodriguez, Rizal.
