The legendary R&B singer, Aretha Franklin’s life story is revealed in the upcoming biographical drama RESPECT. Produced by Metro Goldwyn Mayer and directed by Liesl Tommy, the film focuses on Aretha Franklin growing up and singing in her father’s choir and rising to become an international superstar and legend.
Dubbed as “The Queen of Soul”, Aretha Franklin received numerous honors for her career. She was a singer, songwriter, and a civil rights activist, and was awarded the National Medal of Arts and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Franklin was also the first female performer to join the list of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 and has ranked number one on the list of the “100 Greatest Singers of All Time” in Rolling Stone Magazine.
Jennifer Hudson stars as Aretha Franklin, and she’s joined by a powerhouse cast composed of Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, Queen Latifah, Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess, Tate Donovan, and Mary J. Blige.
Written by Tracey Scott Wilson, the film will be released in December 2020 in select theaters and in January of 2021 for commercial release in international theatres.
