It is fair to say that digital streaming is the future of media consumption, especially with today’s need for everyone to stay indoors. A lot of film studios seem to agree, with big players such as Disney and Universal Studios recently remodeling their business to also cater to the online platform.

But with the growth of demand to stream content digitally also comes the rapid rise of titles available for viewing.

We have given our streaming recommendations per apps in a previous article, so here’s an updated guide to help you choose the next best movie or series for your next binge-watch from just about every popular streaming apps available online.

Netflix

There’s a lot to watch on Netflix, but if you need a new movie to watch in your free time, it’s Project Power starring Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Like this year’s Extraction, there are a lot of things to enjoy here, especially with its handling of action sequences. A treat for fans of anything action.

We’ve been enjoying a lot of the new Ryan Murphy series on Netflix. His recent Hollywood is a solid watch for film lovers, and the upcoming Ratched looks fun as well.

Amazon Prime

The Boys is having its second season this September, but if you haven’t caught up on the first one, give yourself a day and binge-watch every episode on Amazon Prime. A semi-parody on comic book tropes, this is a must-watch if you enjoy dark humor and a lot of comic-book movies.

Amazon Prime distributes all episodes of classic TV sitcoms like The Office, 30 Rock, and Parks and Recreation. Don’t miss that.

Disney+

Our recommendation in Disney+ is not a Marvel or Star Wars title, it’s Hamilton by Lin Manuel-Miranda. A filmed version of the mega-popular Broadway musical, this is a must-watch if you’re either looking for new history to research on or if you’re searching for something that will make you cry a lot. It’s a blast.

Also on Disney+ is The Mandalorian and soon, the live-action Mulan.

HBO GO

HBO is a haven for award-winning series, so it’s a no-brainer to not subscribe to their streaming app, HBO Go. If you want a quick superhero show to watch, Watchmen is our recommendation. It is a loose follow-up of the iconic Alan Moore graphic novel, so no need to brush up on your pop-culture knowledge to enjoy it.

With regards to HBO recommendations, there are the standard picks like The Sopranos and The WireGame of Thrones if you haven’t caught up on it.

Viu

Emerging streaming app Viu exclusively distributes Parasite, the Academy Award-winning film by Bong Joon-ho about a family who cons a richer family. Almost everyone has strongly recommended this title, but if you are one of the few who haven’t seen it, consider this as an additional endorsement.

K-Drama fans will be thrilled to learn that The World of the Married is also on Viu, among other popular series.

iWant

iWant has been at the forefront in featuring movies and series from the Philippines. Their latest hit, the BL series Hello Stranger, has received acclaims both locally and internationally. With only eight episodes, the series has mostly garnered millions of views per episode since its start in June.

We couldn’t recommend the classic Filipino movies in their library, as well as Past Present Perfect and Ang Babae Sa Septik Tank 3.

iFlix

One of the leading streaming apps in Southeast Asia, iFlix has acquired online distribution to Bad Genius the Series, a spin-off of the acclaimed Thai hit Bad Genius about a group of high school students who cheated their way to pass a coveted international exam.

iFlix also features hit series from South Korea such as Strong Woman Do Bong Soon and What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim.

YouTube

YouTube has recently introduced YouTube Premium as a new way to cater to exclusive content to its users. But we couldn’t recommend enough the series that launched this service to greater heights: Cobra KaiCobra Kai is a two-season show that serves as a follow-up to The Karate Kid AKA the go-to martial arts movie of every ‘80s kid.

Other recommendations are the YouTube channels of TBA Studios and Cinema One, who are both offering access to their well-known works.
