Unfortunate news to all the Marvel fans. If you were waiting for actress Scarlett Johansson to grace the screens and kick ass in her upcoming film Black Widow, well, you have to wait a little while longer. And we’re talking a whole year longer.
The Black Widow movie that was originally set to release this November 6, 2020—yes, we’re weeping with you, it only had two more months to go—was just rescheduled to premiere instead on May 7, 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
What’s worse? Two other Marvel movies have been pushed back because of this. The two movies, Eternals and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, are moved further to 2021. From their original release dates of February 12, 2021 and May 7, 2021 respectively, these two soon-to-be iconic additions to the Marvel Studios franchise are now moved to November 5, 2021 and July 9, 2021—a move of almost 9 months for Eternals and two months for Shang-Chi.
For the first time since 2009, the acclaimed and beloved Marvel Cinematic Universe by fans all around the world, will not have a movie released in a year. Big screens across the globe are closed because of the virus, and Marvel Studios, along with other large and small production studios are all equally having a hard time navigating this new cinematic landscape.
Considering the expensive production costs, the hard work and effort of the stars and the entire crew, and the artistry of these films, there’s no wonder everything is getting pushed back. Spectacular movies deserve to be recognized and attended by the masses.
And although we’re getting three blockbuster movies from the franchise in 2021, it’s hard not to feel bummed about this sudden change. Mostly with Black Widow since this is the second time it’s been delayed this year.
However, as dedicated Marvel fans, we’ll still be here no matter the wait. For now, we’ll just enjoy marathon streaming the older movies. And by the time Black Widow, Eternals and Shang-Chi are here, we’ll definitely be ready.
Other titles to expect from Marvel Studios soon are Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Black Panther III, Thor: Love and Thunder, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and the sequel to Captain Marvel.
