Disney surprises Star Wars fans with a lot of announcements for the franchise

The force is strong!

The Walt Disney Company had its Investors Day and Star Wars fans around the globe are ecstatic with various developments for the franchise!

With the Skywalker Saga ended with “The Rise of Skywalker (Episode IX)”, the Star Wars franchise is currently heading on a new path with the release of the hit original series, “The Mandalorian”. The second season of the adventures of Din Djarin and Grogu opened a whole new world of the Star Wars universe to explore.

With the announcement from Disney today, there are 10 upcoming Star Wars series that will be released on its streaming platform, Disney+, and two new movies.

Star Wars Ewan McGregor is coming back to reprise his role from the prequel trilogy, Obi-Wan Kenobi for his own Disney+ series set 10 years after the events of “\Revenge of the Sith (Episode III)”. To make the series more exciting, Lucasfilm also announced that Hayden Christensen will also be reprising his prequel trilogy role, Anakin Skywalker/ Darth Vader. The series will go into production in March 2021.

Another Disney+ Star Wars series to watch for is “Lando” which will follow the adventures of Lando Calrissian.

With the surprise appearance of fan-favorite Ahsoka Tano in the 2nd season of “The Mandalorian”, Rosario Dawson will reprise her role with on Disney+ spin-off series, “Ahsoka” following Ahsoka’s adventures. The series will be set in the same timeline with “The Mandalorian”.

Another spin-off series and set in the same timeline with “The Mandalorian”, “Rangers of the New Republic” is also in the works with Lucasfilm and will be available on Disney+. To add to the excitement, “The Mandalorian”, “Ahsoka” and “Rangers of the New Republic” series will feature crossover as well.

Diego Luna will also reprise his role, Cassian Andor for “Andor”, a Star Wars series that is a prequel to the film “Rogue One”. It is currently in the production stage and will be released to Disney+ in 2022.

A mysterious series called “The Acolyte” is also in the line-up and will be set in the High Republic era of the franchise.

Several animated series set in the Star Wars universe are also in the pipeline for Disney+.

“A Droid Story” will feature the iconic droid-duo R2-D2 and C3P0 for their new adventure.

“Visions” is an anthology collection of short films set in the Star Wars universe.

Meanwhile, “The Bad Batch” is another animated series about the bad batch of clones and a follow-up to the hit “Clone Wars”.

Lastly, the hit “The Mandalorian” is also renewed for its 3rd season on Disney+ and will premiere in December 2021.

Lucasfilm also announced two new movie projects, “Rogue Squadron” which will be directed by Patty Jenkins, is slated for 2023 release, and an untitled Star Wars film which will be directed by Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi.
