Those living in Singapore may start seeing their favorite Korean actors around in the near future.
It’s no question that K-Dramas have taken over the world, especially with the rise of streaming services such as Netflix and Viu that offer a wide selection of K-dramas. It’s no surprise that the Korean wave has also reached Singapore and its surrounding countries and is gaining fans from the West, too.
As part of a campaign project by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), some Korean dramas will start filming in various locations around Singapore as part of the three-year agreement signed with Studio Dragon Corporation.
The goal of the project is to promote Singapore as a hip tourist spot for Koreans while riding on the Korean wave.
For K-Drama fanatics, Studio Dragon Corporation is the production company that brought us favorites such as Crash Landing on You, Goblin, Legend of the Blue Sea, The King: Eternal Monarch, Love Alarm, About Time, and many more!
This partnership was based on the fact that South Koreans were in 9th place among Singapore’s top visitors in 2019. Of course, given the pandemic, this project may take some time to materialize and filming will have to wait until travel restrictions ease. The STB hopes that this campaign will help the tourism sector rebound after it was badly hit by the coronavirus.
The partnership will also entail collaboration between the STB and Studio Dragon on marketing and promotional materials of the K-Dramas.
