A superhero from Southeast Asia will be making its debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sooner than we expected.
While promoting the launch of the Disney+ in Singapore, Marvel Studios Head Kevin Feige dropped a huge reveal that a Southeast Asian superhero is coming soon in Disney’s streaming service through an upcoming Marvel series.
“It is high time we get a Southeast Asian Marvel superhero on Disney+. I think it is. And I think you won’t have to wait there very long at all. We’ve announced a number of shows and we’ve got more in the works,” Feige said during an interview with NME.
Although Feige did not reveal which Southeast Asian superhero will join the MCU soon, we have a few guesses.
One of the recent additions to the Marvel universe, Warriors of the Sky is a team of mostly Southeast Asian heroes who are on par with the X-Men and the Guardians of the Galaxy. The members, comprised of Blue Dragon (Vietnam), Sun Bird (Malaysia), War Tiger (Thailand) and Shadow Shell (Taiwan), are based on Southeast Asian myths with each having their personal mystical powers.
Filipina hero Wave aka Pearl Pangan is also a likely addition, raising prominence in the Marvel comics for her powers that include controlling the sea, creating powerful waves, and other water-based abilities.
