Directed by Nattawut ‘Baz’ Poonpiriya of the 2017 cult-favorite Bad Genius, One for the Road tells the story of two old friends who go on a road trip with a heart-wrenching twist of a terminal illness. The story unfolds with romance, facing your past, and, of course, bittersweet friendship.
The film is produced by prime Hong Kong filmmaker Wong Kar-wai, which gives us all the best hints that this film is about to give you the best warm tearjerker. Director Baz described the film to be his ‘most personal film to date’ as it is something that is loosely based on his own life.
It premiered on January 28, 2021 in the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, which happened mixed in-person and digital for the first time since the foundation of the festival in 1978. One for the Road brought home the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award for Creative Vision at the festival’s awards ceremony.
One for the Road is yet to be released in its home country of Thailand but it is expected to hit the Thai theaters within the year.
