This is for all the Game of Thrones and House Targaryen fans out there: House of the Dragon, a new GoT prequel series, is in the making. Watch the teaser for the upcoming series below.

HBO revealed the series’ star-studded cast including Paddy Considine (HBO’s The Third Day, The Outsider), Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One), Emma D’Arcy (Truth Seekers), Matt Smith (The Crown, Doctor Who), Steve Toussaint (It’s a Sin, Doctor Who), Eve Best (Nurse Jackie, The King’s Speech), Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill, The Amazing Spider-Man) and Sonoya Mizuno (Ex Machina, Crazy Rich Asians).

Based on the book Fire & Blood written by George R.R. Martin, House of the Dragon will be set 300 years prior to the Game of Thrones timeline and will follow the story of House Targaryen during their reign in Westeros. Production will begin this April, with a long wait to go as the series is slated to premiere by 2022 on HBO and HBO Max with 10 episodes for its first season.

HBO also revealed five more Game of Thrones spin-off series planned for the future – but let’s not get ahead of ourselves because none of them are guaranteed to be aired yet. HBO’s chief content officer Casey Bloys shared that although there is a desire to create multiple spin-offs to Game of Thrones, the development stages for a series is quite competitive.

So while we await the fate of all the planned series based on the mythical world of Westeros, at least we know for certain that one prequel will push through.
