Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings is the first MCU film to have an Asian protagonist and a predominantly Asian cast. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Short Term 12, The Glass Castle and Just Mercy) and written by Cretton along with Dave Callaham (Mortal Kombat) and Andrew Lanham (Just Mercy), the film stars Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, alongside Awkwafina, Tony Leung, Fala Chen, Meng’er Zhang, Florian Munteanu, Ronny Chieng, and Michelle Yeoh.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton shared his thoughts on the film in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, saying “We wanted to make sure that Shang-Chi was just like any of us. I want to watch this movie and say… yes, that’s how I feel. I feel out of place sometimes, and I cover it up with humor. He’s a kid who is out of his element and a fish out of water here in the US, and he’s covering it up with this charisma that I find very relatable.”
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is set to be released on September 3, 2021, so let’s support Asian representation and don’t miss it!
