The first official images of House of the Dragon, HBO’s prequel to its massive hit series Game of Thrones, have finally been released.
The photos reveal that House Targaryen will play a major role in the upcoming series, offering fans a peek at Emma D’ Arcy as Princess Rhaenrya Targaryen and Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen. Other House of the Dragon cast members such as Rhys Ifans (Otto Hightower), Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower), and Steve Toussaint (Lord Corlys Velaryon) were also shown in the previewed photos.
House of the Dragon will be set a few hundred years prior to the events of Game of Thrones and will follow the story of House Targaryen and the Targaryen civil war that became known as the “Dance of the Dragons.”
The series, based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood will also star Paddy Considine, Eve Best, Sonoya Mizuno, and Fabien Frankel. It recently started production and is eyeing a 2022 debut on HBO and HBO Max.
Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan Condal will serve as co-showrunners of the show while doing double duty as executive producers along with George R.R. Martin, Vince Gerardis, Greg Yaitanes, Sara Lee Hess and Ron Schmidt. Martin and Condal co-created the series, with Sara Lee Hess serving as writer, and Clare Kilner, Geeta V. Patel, Sapochnik and Yaitanes directing the episodes.
