Jane Austen’s Persuasion is set to have a Netflix adaptation starring Crazy Rich Asians actor Henry Golding and Fifty Shades of Grey actress Dakota Johnson.

The remake of Persuasion follows Anne Elliot, a 27-year-old who currently lives with her family on the verge of bankruptcy. As she goes through the reality of her family’s situation, an ex-suitor named Frederick Wentworth comes knocking on her door, and Anne must decide whether she should give love a second chance or reject him once again.

Contrary to what others may have hoped for, Henry Golding will not be playing as Johnson’s primary love interest. Henry Golding is set to play Mr. Elliot opposite Anne, a distant cousin considered to be cold and callous, Austen’s classic foil.

Known for playing the “good guy” in films such as Crazy Rich Asians and Last Christmas, the actor told Deadline that this specific character was what attracted him to the role, as he wanted to play against type.

Carrie Cracknell who will be making her feature directorial debut with Persuasion, with the script written by Ron Bass and Alice Victoria Winslow. The film’s executive producers are MRC Film romance label’s Elizabeth Cantillon, Michael Constable, and David Fliegel, along with producers Andrew Lazar and Christinia Weiss Lurie.

Netflix has not yet announced who will be portraying Anne Elliot’s ex-suitor (Henry Golding), but fans already have a few ideas in mind for who they think would make a great Frederick Wentworth.
