Marvel has unveiled that they will soon be introducing Ari Agbayani, the Filipino-American college student and heroine inspired by Captain America.
Created by writers Alyssa Wong and Jodi Nishijima, Ari is a student at a private university who decided to step up to action when a major conflict arises at her school.
“Like the other Caps, Ari has a strong sense of justice and admires the ideals Captain America embodies. But the Captain America she’s inspired by isn’t Steve Rogers – it’s Bucky Barnes. Someone who hates bullies as much as Steve does, but is willing to use sneakier, shadier tactics to deal with them,” Wong said about the character.
Ari Agbayani is set to debut in The United States of Captain America, which was announced as a tie-in to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Captain America. Marvel teased on their website that it will be an “action-packed adventure that explores the iconic hero’s incredible legacy and stars his greatest partners and villains.”
The series, which will launch its first issue in late June 2021, will follow Steve Rogers on a trip across America to find his stolen shield alongside other Captain Americas Bucky Barnes, Sam Wilson, and John Walker. Ari was hinted to be featured in the series’ fourth issue.
