In anticipation of the release of the upcoming Gundam film, Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway, the original movie trilogy of the Mobile Suit Gundam series is now available on Netflix!
Mobile Suit I, II, and III which were released in the 80s are the compilation of the original Gundam TV series with some edits from the franchise’s creator Yoshiyuki Tomino. For those who want to catch up with the series, watch the films now!
For starters, the movie series follows the story of Amuro Ray, a teenager pushed in the middle of the battle of Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon. He will become the pilot of the experimental war machine, RX-78 mobile suit.
The iconic robot is a very popular pop culture icon not only in Japan but also across the globe. The series gave birth to a lot of action figures called Gunpla, manga, video games, anime series spin-offs, parks and museums, and even an inspiration to cars like the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and Nissan’s GT-R.
The sequel to the Mobile Suit film series, Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack which was released in 1988 is also on Netflix. Following Char’s Counterattack, Hathaway will start streaming on July 1 exclusively on Netflix.
