After his character Sam Wilson has been officially announced as the new shield-wielding superhero in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (FAWS), Anthony Mackie is now confirmed to lead the upcoming Captain America movie.

The fourth installment in the Captain America franchise, which is expected to follow the events of FAWS, is at its early stages of development and is yet to find a release date in Marvel Studios’ stacked Phase 4 calendar. FAWS writers Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson are currently writing the script for the movie and no director is yet attached to the project.

Mackie first appeared as Sam Wilson aka The Falcon in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, before reprising his role in Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War.

FAWS cast members Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Wyatt Russell (John Walker), and Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine) are currently being speculated to join the project, though Marvel is yet to release an official statement.
