A major wave of nostalgia has hit social media when images of the live-action cast of Avatar started to circulate. These castings surfaced first in the website Avatar News, an unofficial site that collects information about the franchise. These speculations came about after fans pieced together social media news and posts about the actors, and with the production timeline aligning with their schedules, everything fell into place. Netflix has since confirmed the actors for this series, namely Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio Tarbell as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka and Dallas Liu as Zuko.
Gordon Cormier, an 11-year-old actor who has appeared in Netflix and Paramount+ movies. He will be playing the series’ protagonist Aang, a brave and free-spirited character who bears the responsibility of being the Avatar who is prophesized to restore balance to the world. 14-year-old actress Kiawentilo Tarbell has appeared in CBC and Netflix’s Anne with an E and will be playing Katara, a water bender from the Northern Tribe known for her strong-willed character. Her brother Sokka will be portrayed by 19-year-old Ian Ousley, channeling the characters wit, comedic chops and determination. Lastly, Dallas Liu, a 20-year-old actor known for his roles in PEN15, Tekken, and his upcoming role in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, will be playing the antagonist of the series, crown prince of the Fire Nation, Zuko.
Rumor has it that filming will begin this year and there may even be a few changes in the plot and the characters themselves. What do you think of this?
