Taste Atlas dropped its annual Best Ranked Southeast Asia food list, with The Philippines’ Lumpiang Shanghai and Tortang Talong leading the ranks. Along in the top tier (rated 4.5 and above) is Indonesia’s Bubur Ayam, which is a chicken congee, often enjoyed with spicy peanut sauce.
The Philippines landed two dish entries in the top tier. The country’s Lumpiang Shanghai evolved from Chinese Spring Rolls. This deep-fried savory dish often wraps ground pork with minced onions, carrots and seasonings. On the other hand, Tortang Talong is a Filipino eggplant omelet. This Filipino dish incorporates smoky and creamy with its charred eggplants enveloping its juicy insides.

While the country had an impressive finish, balut fell short, garnering the lowest rating at 2.7 stars. This exotic street food is a duck embryo often enjoyed with salt or vinegar. It is likely not one for every taste bud.
Other must-try recipes from Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam’s Pho, Thailand’s Pad Thai, Malaysia’s Nasi Lemak and Singapore’s Chili Crab add to the list.
