Iconic ‘Slam Dunk’ Manga Series Is Finally Getting A New Movie

Nostalgia is going to run all over the town for millennials, anime fans, and manga readers as the highly-acclaimed sports comic series Slam Dunk is getting a new movie set to be released on December 3, 2022.

After a series of rumors circulating about the manga series getting a new movie, fans were finally given the confirmation they wanted when Twitter account @movie_slamdunk released an announcement video. The tweet earned thousands of likes and retweets, and has 4.8m views as of writing.

Recently, the movie’s official social media account started to release the teaser photos of the characters from the film per day. The first poster was Miyagi Ryota (#7), followed by Mitsui Hisashi (#14), then comes Rukawa Kaede (#11), and finally the main character of manga series – Sakuragi Hanamichi (#10).

The first trailer of the film also premiered, giving fans their first look:

The Slam Dunk series tells the story of a teenager named Hanamichi Sakuragi who becomes a basketball player from the Shohoku High School basketball team in order to make Haruko Akagi, a girl he likes, fall in love with him. However, as he learns more about basketball and plays several games, he starts liking the sport.

Fans are ecstatic as the promotional campaign for the movie is starting – this includes posters all around Japan.

The upcoming movie is entitled THE FIRST SLAM DUNK and will be released on theaters this December 3, 2022. It is written and directed by none other than the original series creator Inoue Takehiko.
