Ryan Reynolds made a surprise announcement on his social media that Hugh Jackman will be returning as Wolverine in “Deadpool 3”, which is now officially set for a release this September 6, 2024.
In a video, Reynolds shared that the “Deadpool 3” team have been “working very hard on the next ‘Deadpool’ film for a good long while now. I’ve had to really search my soul on this one. His first appearance in the MCU obviously needs to feel special. We need to stay true to the character, find new depth, motivation, meaning.”
Reynolds also teased that Deadpool’s introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe “needs to stand out and stand apart. It’s been an incredible challenge that has forced me to reach down deep inside. And I…I have nothing. Yeah, just completely empty up here. And terrifying. But we did have one idea.”
The actor then asks Jackman, casually walking by in the video, if he wants to be part of the movie. “Yeah, sure, Ryan,” Jackman replied.

“Deadpool 3” will not be the first time Deadpool and Hugh Jackman will team up in the same movie in their superhero roles. Both infamously comprised the ensemble of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” in 2009, and more recently, Jackman made a cameo on “Deadpool 2” in 2009.
“Deadpool 3” will be directed by Shawn Levy of “Free Guy” and “The Adam Project”. The film will be written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who penned the first two “Deadpool” films.
