In time for the release of the fifth and final season of Netflix’s Stranger Things, series creators The Duffer brothers have revealed that an animated version will be coming soon!
Not much is known about the plot, storyline, or the official title of the series but the creators teased that it will be in the “vein of the Saturday morning cartoons” that we grow up watching. A reference to the 1980’s popular cartoons like Masters of the Universe, Jem and the Holograms, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and G.I. Joe.
“We’ve always dreamed of an animated Stranger Things in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving, and to see this dream realized has been absolutely thrilling,” Matt and Ross Duffer said in a statement on Variety.
“We couldn’t be more blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with — the scripts and artwork are incredible, and we can’t wait to share more with you! The adventure continues,” they continued.
Flying Bark, a Sydney-based animation house is handling the production of the still untitled series, which is led by Nickelodeon’s Fanboy and Chum Chum creator Eric Robles with the Duffer brothers as executive producers and their collaborators for the current Netflix series, Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen of 21 Laps.
In addition to the animated series announcement, it was also recently announced that the popular title is also getting a London stage play with the title “Stranger Things: The First Shadow”.
Ranked as Netflix’s most popular English-language series of all time “Stranger Things” is set to become a classical title that can soon join the ranks of Star Wars and Indiana Jones if they will succeed in the new mediums of exploring the franchise.
