Percy Jackson & the Olympians is coming back in your screens in a new live-action series set for Disney+ later this year!

The rise of the Percy Jackson franchise began with the adaptation of Rick Riordan’s first novel, ‘The Lightning Thief’ in 2010 starring Logan Lerman, Brandon T. Jackson, Alexandra Daddario and Jake Abel. This movie set the franchise to fame and in 2013, the sequel ‘Sea of Monsters’ came to the big screen.

Now, fans can come together and anticipate an all-new series adaptation of the iconic fantasy-adventure Greek mythology inspired tales. Here’s some exciting details to know about the Percy Jackson and the Olympians from Disney+:

It will likely directly follow the novels

With the lengthier series format, Percy Jackson & the Olympians looks like a more faithful adaptation of Riordan’s novels. As seen in the trailer, the setting of the series will start once Percy realizes his lineage and entering camp half-blood. Most likely, the series will be a more in-depth adventure to tell the stories within the original novels compared to the limited time on featured films.

Diverse Cast

The series has already announced their main trio – Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson, Aryan Simhadri as Grover and Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth. Compared to the movies, the actors for the series are much closer to the ages of the characters in the novel with Scobell and Jeffies being only 14 and Simhadri being 15 years old. As seen in the released clips, we can also see the cast features similar aged actors in camp-half blood. This is much more accurate to what we imagined being the pre-teens who loved the Percy Jackson series.

Magical Mythical Creatures

Aside from the gods and Grover, the half human-half goat creature, there are many other mythical creatures to look forward to in the series. There are numerous beings presented in the films such as the manticores, hydra, cyclopse and many more. We are sure to find such creatures in the series as well. We already saw a split-second glimpse of the serpent-headed Medusa in the trailer and caught sight of a horned-creature as well as a huge dragon-like monster.

The special effects and production for these creatures will be really worth it once we see them come to life!
