Marvel Studios announced the launch of their new “Marvel Spotlight” banner with the upcoming release of “Echo,” a series focusing on a more grounded story that does not require the audience to have prior knowledge of previous events in the MCU.

“Echo” follows the story of Maya Lopez, a deaf Native American looking to rediscover her roots and reconnect with her past. Maya made a previous appearance in the series “Hawkeye” as an enforcer for antagonist Wilson Fisk. Trained by Fisk, Maya can perfectly mimic anything she sees, giving her unmatched martial arts prowess letting her adapt to any fighting style.

In a statement made during the screening of “Echo” on Choctaw Day, Marvel Studios Head of Streaming Brad Winderbaum said, “Marvel Spotlight gives us a platform to bring more grounded, character-driven stories to the screen, and in the case of Echo, focusing on street-level stakes over larger MCU continuity.”

“Echo” is the first MCU series to receive a TV-MA rating for mature audiences, allowing it to explore darker and more serious themes. The action-packed first season of the series drops on Disney+ and Hulu on January 10, 2024 so get hyped and watch the trailer here.
