The Microsoft Excel World Championship (MEWC) is an e-sports tournament that gamifies Microsoft’s renowned spreadsheet editor. The event, which will be held in Indonesia for the first time, will challenge Excel wizards from across the country to duke it out in a thrilling head-to-head competition that showcases their skills and expertise in data analysis and problem-solving.
The tournament is open to all Excel users from all over Indonesia, with participants divided into three categories: Rookie for students from all academic programs and universities, including undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels; Professional for the general public and professionals who use Excel in their daily work; and BUMN for representatives from the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) of the Republic of Indonesia.
MEWC Indonesia 2024 will begin with an online qualifying round for each category on October 5, followed by the semi-finals and the grand final round, where the top 8 players from the tournament will compete in an intense head-to-head, with each competitor pushing the boundaries of Excel and turning everyday functions into powerful tools for victory.
The exciting semi-final and final rounds for MEWC Indonesia 2024 will take place at Point Arena Jakarta on October 13.
MEWC Indonesia 2024 is part of the qualification rounds for the global MEWC competition, and whoever emerges as the winner in this tournament will be given the opportunity to compete against the best spreadsheet users in the world in the Microsoft Excel World Championship 2024 Finals happening in Las Vegas this December.
MEWC Indonesia 2024 is a collaboration between PT Pos Properti Indonesia and the Financial Modeling World Cup.
First beginning in 2021, the Microsoft Excel World Championship challenges participants to solve complex tasks and problems using Microsoft Excel, transforming a common office tool into a dynamic sport. The event brings together a global community of enthusiasts to compete, learn, and celebrate the power of Excel. The competition has also seen numerous competitors hailing from Southeast Asia such as Princess Camille Ong and Stevenson Yu from the Philippines, Pichaya Pan-anukooh and Pakkapong Sricharoen from Thailand, and Danny Whittaker from Singapore.
The current Microsoft Excel World Champion is Andrew Ngai, who has won the competition for three consecutive years.
