After a 15-year hiatus, the Bangkok International Film Festival (BKKIFF) is relaunching this September with the theme “Power in Collaboration.”

The BKKIFF started off as a small event in 1998, but in 6 years’ time, the event grew in reputation and eventually expanded and rebranded to become an international festival in 2003. By 2004, the festival had around 150 local and international films from 24 countries in the program. However, amidst a bribery scandal involving the festival’s organizers, the BKKIFF went on a hiatus in 2009.

What had been once one of the biggest film events in the country has become nothing more than a memory for nearly 2 decades. But as another year closed out, it was finally announced that the BKKIFF would return for 2025—bigger and bolder than ever.
