A new generation of talents with a passion for fashion compete for the chance to showcase their skills at Thailand’s Young Designers 2025. Hosted by the Community Development Department, Ministry of Interior, the competition follows the theme “Thai Fabrics Are Fun to Wear” and aims to support and celebrate Thai textiles through designs that are contemporary and eco-conscious.

Young Designers 2025 kicked off last August 21 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Bangkok, receiving 735 entries from students of public and private institutions like Chulalongkorn University, Srinakharinwirot University, Thammasat University, Ubon Ratchathani University, Rajabhat Universities, and other leading universities in the country. Each candidate was tasked to prepare sketch designs, a mood board, and fabric or material samples to be presented in front of the committee. Participants would then receive feedback from the judges and would adjust their designs accordingly.

After a gruelling initial round, 223 will be selected for the regional round, which will be narrowed down further to 94 candidates: 20 from the Northern regions, 24 from the Northeast regions and 25 from the Southern and Central regions. A final elimination round will be held, rounding out the top 40 candidates who will battle at the national level, where they will be trained by renowned Thai fashion gurus like drag queen and designer Art Arya, the Theatre brand’s Sirichai Daharanont, Issue’s Bhubawit Kritpholnara, and Thai textile expert Thananrat Thanasedtakarn. Fitting day will also be scheduled to help designers perfect their pieces before the grand finale at Iconsiam in Bangkok, Thailand this October 28. All of this for the winner to receive the grand prize money to turn their dream designs into a reality.

“It is gratifying to see more new-face entrepreneurs making it to the final round each year. I want to encourage all 735 applicants. Although there can only be one winner, for those who do not win this time, the disappointment can be a great lesson for dedication and practice,” said Mr. Ansit Samphantharat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, during the August 21 press conference.
