The eighth installment in the Lật Mặt series is crossing international borders. The 3388 Films production and distribution company is screening Lật Mặt 8: Vòng Tay Nắng (Face Off 8: Embrace of Light) globally this September.

The film series is helmed by Ly Hai, a singer and actor who began his filmmaking career in 2010. By 2015, Lật Mặt (Face Off) first debuted in Vietnam as an action comedy film and earned more than VNĐ 72 billion ($ 2.73 million). Over the years, it has become a renowned series for its entertainment value and consistent theme of protagonists running away from the antagonists. Last year, the seventh installment, Lật Mặt 7: Một Điều Ước (Face Off 7: One Wish) earned VNĐ 482 billion ($ 18.27 million) and became the highest-grossing production of Hai yet.

The latest film in the Lật Mặt series tackles intergenerational views on life that convey heartfelt lessons on bravery, familial love, and following your dreams. The story follows  17-year-old Tâm—a student who has a passion for music. As he aims to pursue a career as a musician and forms a band with his friends, his family begins expressing their displeasure with him, pitting him against his father’s wishes. Now he must navigate following his aspirations while fighting parental expectations.

Starring Đoàn Thế Vinh, Long Đẹp Trai, and Meritorious Artists Kim Phương and Tuyết Thu, the film earned VNĐ 231 billion in Vietnam, and is set to screen in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Germany, France, Norway, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Poland, Japan, and Thailand this September.
