In the 22 years since its inception, Time100 has continued to generate much debate over the most influential people of our time. Editor in Chief of Time, Sam Jacobs, emphasized that they try to understand the lens of influence through a deep dive into relevant issues such as AI, climate, creators, health, and philanthropy. It has since spawned other variations, including Time100 Women of the Year, Time100 Most Influential Companies, and the Time 100 Next list.
With Time100 Next, the publication aims to recognize the ongoing rise of up-and-coming figures in different fields such as business, entertainment, sports, politics, science, health and more, based on contributions from the magazine’s editors and reporters.
This year’s Time100 Next list includes Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto and Filipino-Canadian actor Manny Jacinto. In a profile written by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Ressa, she has emphasized the key role of Mayor Sotto in transparency and good governance. First elected in 2019, Mayor Sotto “wields spreadsheets against both graft and inherited privilege,” Ressa added, while “his courageous approach—data-driven, direct, and empathetic—is a master class in modern, ethical leadership and has twice won him re-election.”
On the other hand, Manny Jacinto’s Time100 profile was written by Emmy-winning writer and producer Alan Yang. He shared that Jacinto’s range in acting has been phenomenal, mentioning his key roles in career-defining series and movies like his performances as Jason Mendoza in The Good Place, Qibir in The Acolyte, and Eric Reyes in Freakier Friday. Yang also applauded Jacinto’s family-centered ideals and shared his hopes that Jacinto will be one of the greatest leading men of our time.
Time100 Next’s goal with their project is to recognize people who are changing the world, regardless of the consequences of their actions. Whether they are celebrating cultural or scientific breakthroughs or acknowledging political influence, the list ensures that global voices are heard all over the world.
