There’s a few more weeks left to put your photography skills to the test!
World Press Photo is a non-profit organization that champions the power of photojournalism and documentary photography to inspire action and respectful dialogue. It was founded in the Netherlands way back in 1955 in the middle of war, and now, they host annual competitions and exhibits featuring photos from across the globe that tell stories that deserve to be seen.
In 2025, the organization celebrated their 70th anniversary. “When the global jury got down to selecting the different contenders for Photo of the Year we started with a wide selection from each of the six regions. Three topics emerged from that pool that define the 2025 World Press Photo edition: conflict, migration, and climate change. Another way of seeing them is as stories of resilience, family, and community,” said Lucy Conticello, the Global Jury Chair of World Press Photo last year.
This 2026, World Press Photo is opening applications until January 17 to all professional photographers working in the field of photojournalism or documentary photography, with the winner getting the chance to win up to €11,000 ($12,902) and inclusion in the organization’s annual traveling exhibition.
The contest winners will be announced on April 9, 2026, with the Photo of the Year being announced on April 23, 2026, and the winners being part of the Flagship World Press Photo Exhibit that will open in Amsterdam this April.
Help shape the world through your photographs by sending your entry through the World Press Photo website until January 17.
