Are you ready to sing your heart out, Asia? The world’s most iconic music competition is coming to the continent this 2026!
Founded in 1956, Eurovision was created to unite the European countries through music, especially after World War II. Marcel Bezençon of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) spearheaded the competition, which helped push the boundaries of technology as the competition was broadcasted in multiple countries. With 7 European participants singing all original songs, the first winner was crowned from Lugano, Switzerland with Lys Assia’s “Refrain.” Since then, songs like ABBA’s “Waterloo” in 1974, Alexander Rybak’s “Fairytale” in 2009, Måneskin’s “Zitti e Buoni” in 2021, and more have boosted careers and shown the world the talent that the region produces.
This 2026, the competition is now on its 70th run, with the main contest happening in Vienna this May and the Eurovision Song Contest Asia debuting in Asia. Through the collaboration of European Broadcasting Union (EBU), Voxovation, and S2O Productions, the Asian run will have 10 competitors from Asian countries like South Korea, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan, with additional countries to be added to the contestants. The grand finale will be held in Bangkok, Thailand.
