Dragons? Check. Spice? Check. Enemies to Lovers? Check, check, check! One of BookTok’s favorite fantasy novels, Fourth Wing, is getting a series adaptation with a surprising producer at the helm!
First things first, what is Fourth Wing? It’s a New York Times Bestseller written by Rebecca Yarros that took TikTok by storm. The story follows Violet Sorrengail, a 20-year-old who is forced to face the brutal world of Basgiath War College by the matriarch of her household. Despite her fragile physique, Violet joins hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. In the middle of this conflict is intricate character development, heated romance, and dark secrets waiting to be uncovered.
The book went viral in 2023, inspiring a book enthusiasts from TikTok to form a fandom around it. From character analysis to creator reactions, the community has been alive and thriving with a steady stream of videos about the book since it first hit the shelves—bringing people together, all without the help of a paid campaign. And now, after 3 years, it’s being adapted for the television format by Amazon MGM Studios.
Meredith Averill (The Haunting of Hill House, Locke & Key) has been confirmed as the showrunner, with Michael B. Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo as executive producers under Jordan’s company, Outlier Society. Executive producer Lisa Joy (Fallout) has also been attached to the project, with sources saying that she is set to direct the pilot episode of the series.
“Rebecca’s books have become one of the fastest-selling franchises of the 21st century, with a fandom so passionate, so devoted, they don’t just read these books, they live in them, and it’s because Fourth Wing is everything at once,” Averill said during the Amazon Upfronts announcement.
No cast or slated release date has been announced as of June 2026, but fans have been fancasting Mackenzie Foy (Renesmee in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2) as Violet and Josh Heuston (Constantine Corrino in Dune: Prophesy) as Xander.
