The Dia.Lo.Gue cafe started in December 2001, founded by married couple gallerist Engel Tanzil and graphic designer Hermawan Tanzil. This cafe-slash-artspace was eventually created to invite fellow artists and audiences to immerse themselves more in the art world while enjoying a heartfelt selection of delicious food and drinks.

The meaning behind the name is a play on the word “dialogue” and the Indonesian words “dia” which translates to “he/she,” “lo” which is slang that translates to “you,” and “gue” which translates to “me.” This choice of words stems from Engel’s belief that art should be free and accessible for everyone.
True to its owners’ roots in the art scene, the cafe houses an art gallery—open for admission to anyone to roam around and take pictures of. Various paintings and artworks by different artists hang in the gallery. The cafe also doubles as an events space for art exhibits, creative workshops, and seminars.
