Netflix has announced their plans to continue investing in Korean productions during their recently held “See What’s Next Korea” event held in Seoul.
Following this news, Netflix confirmed that they wrapped up filming for the upcoming prequel to their zombie series Kingdom, Kingdom: Ashin of the North.
Writer Kim Eun Hee also shared a few more details during the event about the prequel’s protagonist, “Actually, Ashin is one of the main characters in the Kingdom series. And I was trying to tell a story about Ashin when I realized that I had to touch on that very important mystery of the resurrection plant. But I thought that it would be more apt to tackle that in the special episode or spinoff rather than incorporating that into the regular seasons just to make it more interesting.”
Kingdom: Ashin of the North is a special look into the backstory of Jun Ji Hyun’s character, Ashin, heiress of the northern tribe. Ashin was left as a mysterious character as the second leg of the series came to a finish last year. This time, the story will be focused on the events that took place in the past, before her encounter with Lee Chang’s group.
