Disney has announced that KZ Tandingan is the singer of “Gabay”, the very first track in the Filipino language that will be featured in the studio’s upcoming film Raya and the Last Dragon.
The announcement was made through the Disney Studios Philippines Twitter account (@DisneyPH) where they tweeted, “Asia’s Soul Supreme KZ Tandingan will be lending her remarkable voice to an all-new song titled “Gabay” from Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon. This first-ever Filipino-language track from Disney will be coming your way very soon. Abangan! #DisneyRayaPH” along with her official poster for the movie.
“Gabay” will be part of the soundtrack of Disney’s upcoming movie “Raya and the Last Dragon”. The Disney film revolves around Southeast Asian culture with its soundtrack featuring songs that represent the various countries in Southeast Asia. With Raya as the film’s protagonist, Southeast Asian cultures will be put in the spotlight as the movie draws from the different cultures and people. Set in Kumandra, Raya seeks the last dragon in order to restore balance to the land and stop the monsters from destroying the kingdom.
“Gabay, the first-ever Disney track sung in Filipino, demonstrates our commitment to work with local creative talents to tell our stories in a locally relevant manner,” says Allie Benedicto, the head of Disney Philippines’s studio marketing department. According to Benedicto, “..we found it fitting to launch ‘Gabay’ as a way for us to celebrate the film and connect with our Filipino fans.” The song will be released on Spotify by March 5, and the film is set for a 2021 release. Raya and the Dragon will premiere on Disney+, the exclusive streaming platform of Disney. However, Filipino Disney fans need not worry as there may be a release in the Philippines.
