The long wait is finally over for “Friends” fans as the recently announced reunion special will start production very soon!
The upcoming “Friends” episode brings back the main cast of the classic television sitcom such as David Schwimmer, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Courteney Cox and Matt LeBlanc.
With the original cast complete, the special will be executively produced by Kauffman and Crane, Kevin Bright, and Ben Winston, who will also be directing the reunion special, which was planned for the sitcom’s 25th anniversary.
Although there have been some obstacles for the production to overcome with the appearance of the pandemic, Matthew Perry gave some substantial information regarding the special when he tweeted in November, “Friends reunion being rescheduled for the beginning of March. Looks like we have a busy year coming up. And that’s the way I like it!” and was confirmed in David Schewimmer’s recent interview with SiriusXM’s Radio Andy, “Actually, in a little over a month I’m heading out to L.A.,” Schwimmer said. “So, finally, I mean, we figured out a way to film it safely and there’s going to be a portion of it that we filmed outside because of, you know, for safety protocols.”
The reunion special will feature the main cast revisiting the sitcom’s iconic set and soundstage on Stage 24, and some behind-the-scenes clips, but they will not be reprising their roles as Friends characters. HBO Max cleared up the confusion in a released statement, “Lastly, in order to avoid any misunderstanding about what this special is, we want to make it very clear that this is not a new, original episode of the series. The cast will be appearing as themselves, not as their beloved characters.”
While there is no set date for the reunion to be released, we know that it will be streamed on HBO Max (HBO’s exclusive streaming service) once it airs. Unfortunately, the app is only available in the United States, but with the amount of Friends’ fans everywhere around the globe, it may be released internationally.
